What we’re making! Peony Dress by Colette Patterns

on Sep 12, 2013 in Sewing, What We're Making | 3 comments

Lydia made the Peony Dress by Colette Patterns using the appropriately named Happy Hour fabric from Michael Miller’s Mod Century Collection. The Peony is a beginner pattern recommended for sewists with a bit of experience sewing garments. Be sure to pay careful attention when cutting a directional print to ensure the print is facing the  proper direction.

Lydia’s Grandma spent the day with her sewing the Peony, which gave her just the confidence she needed to complete her first garment sewing project. What a lucky girl to be able to sew with Grandma!  Together they completed the entire dress in one day.

Lydia felt the pattern instructions were very clear and well written. Each Colette Pattern includes a glossary of sewing terms which will come in handy when Grandma is not there to offer assistance. The invisible zipper was easy to install.  Sarai from Colette Patterns has a detailed video online – How to sew an invisible zipper.

The contrast fabric for the sash and pockets adds just the right pop of color.

Beautiful sewing Lydia and Grandma!

  1. Wow! I seldom comment on clothing I see posted, but that is one spectacular dress. I love that fabric with that pattern. Great job Lydia and grandma. 😎

  2. Honestly, you must be the best-dressed workplace around! And I, too, think Lydia is extremely lucky to be sewing with her grandma.
