Where I Sew – Sonja Gingerich of Ginger Makes

on Jul 17, 2013 in Where I Sew | 67 comments

I’m Sonja Gingerich, and I blog at Ginger Makes and for the Mood Sewing Network.  I work in film/television production, and love to sew garments in every spare moment!  My sewing space is the dining area in my small NYC apartment, so my fabric and notion storage, mirror, and ironing supplies can all be quickly rolled away and tucked in the bedroom if I’m throwing a party (I just have to remember to clean up all the thread bits before setting out the cheese platter!).  I love that my workspace is in the middle of the apartment, so I can work away, but still chat with my husband (and keep an eye on my two pugs!).

  1. I would love my sewing to be quickly rolled out of sight! My sewing area is looking like there was an explosion!

  2. Would not have guessed that was a nyc sewing space. My own nyc space is a cluttered corner set up on a TV tray. My apt doesn’t have room for a proper dining table.

  4. Although I can’t wait until I have my own sewing room, until then, I also like that I can still converse with my husband while sewing 🙂

  6. I love how even though she has a small sewing space, she doesn’t let it stop her from being creative. It’s a good use of space. I also love the sewing basket.

  7. I love having my own space to sew, but sometimes it would be nice to sew in the thick of things. It must be nice to be able to talk to hubby while doing the thing you love!

  9. Like you I sew in my dinning room and have a hard time getting everything out of the way when I want to entertain. I have gotten where I just take the cutting mat off the dinning room table and tell everyone what I’m working on at the time. Small spaces are a challenge but you seem to have worked it out very well

  18. I love how organized everyone’s rooms look in these pictures! I admire the idea, my room is only 8ft x 10f, and half of it is taken up by my husbands R/C car equipment! Really enjoy the idea of celebrating our sewing spaces though, and thanks for the opportunity to earn a gift certificate.

  20. If I had my sewing machine set up in the middle of my living area, I think I could get a lot more done! Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.

  24. I sometimes sew in the dining room as well. It is handy to have things on wheels so they can be wheeled and not carried, hehe. Love your sewing box on the floor, I have one simiiar. Thanks for sharing your space with us.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.
