Where I Sew – Sonja Gingerich of Ginger Makes
I’m Sonja Gingerich, and I blog at Ginger Makes and for the Mood Sewing Network. I work in film/television production, and love to sew garments in every spare moment! My sewing space is the dining area in my small NYC apartment, so my fabric and notion storage, mirror, and ironing supplies can all be quickly rolled away and tucked in the bedroom if I’m throwing a party (I just have to remember to clean up all the thread bits before setting out the cheese platter!). I love that my workspace is in the middle of the apartment, so I can work away, but still chat with my husband (and keep an eye on my two pugs!).

I would love my sewing to be quickly rolled out of sight! My sewing area is looking like there was an explosion!

Would not have guessed that was a nyc sewing space. My own nyc space is a cluttered corner set up on a TV tray. My apt doesn’t have room for a proper dining table.

Although I can’t wait until I have my own sewing room, until then, I also like that I can still converse with my husband while sewing 🙂

Drooling at the colourful thread stacks hanging on the wall there 😀

I love how even though she has a small sewing space, she doesn’t let it stop her from being creative. It’s a good use of space. I also love the sewing basket.

Well, no excuses now for my lack of space!

I love having my own space to sew, but sometimes it would be nice to sew in the thick of things. It must be nice to be able to talk to hubby while doing the thing you love!

it all looks so tidy. I also like to sew where I can see whats happening. Usually.

Ooooh the thread bits. My husband loves those.

Like you I sew in my dinning room and have a hard time getting everything out of the way when I want to entertain. I have gotten where I just take the cutting mat off the dinning room table and tell everyone what I’m working on at the time. Small spaces are a challenge but you seem to have worked it out very well

It is so fun to see all the people who make their sewing space part of their everyday living.

Great use of a small space.

I love how organized everyone’s rooms look in these pictures! I admire the idea, my room is only 8ft x 10f, and half of it is taken up by my husbands R/C car equipment! Really enjoy the idea of celebrating our sewing spaces though, and thanks for the opportunity to earn a gift certificate.

I love your cart!

If I had my sewing machine set up in the middle of my living area, I think I could get a lot more done! Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.

Great use of small space – I need to start thinking of how to downsize my area! Thanks for some ideas!
View CommentJuly 18, 2013
I also use my dining room as my sewing area so I can relate to cleaning up all those thread bits.

Very utilitarian space. I have to have my sewing stuff easily packed away as well.

I sometimes sew in the dining room as well. It is handy to have things on wheels so they can be wheeled and not carried, hehe. Love your sewing box on the floor, I have one simiiar. Thanks for sharing your space with us.
Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.
