Where I Sew – Erin Erickson of Dog Under My Desk
When I started writing PDF sewing patterns, the name Dog Under My Desk just seemed appropriate. My Yorkies really do sleep under my desk all day (and night) while I design, endlessly prototype, and photograph my bag patterns. My space is set up so I can move quickly from my iMac to my sewing machine to my ironing board to my photography backdrop. My fabric collection is all of my favorite colors, so I keep it on display for easy access. I really do cut on the floor, and yes, my friends can vouch for the fact that my room actually is this clean most of the time! In between pattern writing marathons, at least.
My pattern business has gradually evolved over the past two years into my current line of nine patterns and countless tutorials, with more of each on the way! I’m active online and easy to reach if you have any questions about bag making, interfacing, or sewing in general!

What a great, organized sewing space! I love the doggy mascots! I have 3 kitty mascots in my sewing room!’

Your studio space is like the ideal kitchen triangle (sink/stove/fridge) with it being your iMac/sewing machine/ironing board! It really does help in productivity. My sister still cuts on the floor, so that really makes me smile. I’ll let her know she’s in good company. 🙂

Fun! Company arrives today and when they leave. I’ll be converting my bonus room into a sewing room. It’s going to be so much fun. Currently my dining room area is my sewing space.

Way too neat. But, you are young. Your stash will grow, grasshopper.

Love your “space”…I wish mine was that organized but I am forced to sew in my kitchen/living room…My bookcase is emptied of books in lieu of fabric. Must spend some time this summer reorganizing fabric!! My cat loves my quilts and if I leave fabric stacked on the table she takes it over as her new bed!!

Better dogs sleeping under your table than cats on the table! That’s what I contend with. 😉

I am amazed how neat and organized your space is. That is my goal but I keep getting distracted and sew instead of organizing!

Oh my, I can only get occasional glimpses of my sewing room clean because I tend to sew like a tornado! lol Thanks for the inspiration and I love, love, love your patterns!

Isn’t it great to have a good-sized mirror in the sewing room? My mirror has come in quite handy in showing me a different perspective of a project thus helping me to make decisions regarding colors, proportions, and overall design in ways that I may have missed otherwise.

My daughter in law just bought three Thread spool wall hangers at a yard sale so she can start to organize her sewing space. Your fabric shelf looks very nice. kthurn@bektel.com
