Where I Sew – Erin Erickson of Dog Under My Desk

on Jul 7, 2013 in Where I Sew | 94 comments

When I started writing PDF sewing patterns, the name Dog Under My Desk just seemed appropriate. My Yorkies really do sleep under my desk all day (and night) while I design, endlessly prototype, and photograph my bag patterns. My space is set up so I can move quickly from my iMac to my sewing machine to my ironing board to my photography backdrop. My fabric collection is all of my favorite colors, so I keep it on display for easy access. I really do cut on the floor, and yes, my friends can vouch for the fact that my room actually is this clean most of the time! In between pattern writing marathons, at least.

My pattern business has gradually evolved over the past two years into my current line of nine patterns and countless tutorials, with more of each on the way! I’m active online and easy to reach if you have any questions about bag making, interfacing, or sewing in general!

  3. Having all the fabrics displayed is really nice. Makes me think I need to get my stash out of the closet and from under the bed and start displaying them for inspiration.

  4. I love that you have your fabric on display. That would be inspiring to me, but due to space concerns is it in boxes under my desk.

  5. Dogs like to be part of the action, don’t they? My labrador is always coming over to check out what I am sewing on. Or maybe he is just trying to tip over my iron one more time. I really like your fabric bookshelf- so inspiring to have them on display.

  8. Your sewing room looks like a great place to create. I love how the colourful fabric contrasts with the soft grey walls. My knees and back wouldn’t be able to handle cutting on the floor though, but you’re much younger!

  9. Your dogs are so cute. I love that they have their own space in your sewing room! My cats certainly love to be in the middle of things, as well. Almost every time I get up from my sewing machine chair to iron or whatever, I turn around to find a cat on my chair. 🙂

  20. I wish my cats would stay under my sewing desk, but I’m afraid my company would need to be called “Cats on my desk, on my fabric, everywhere!” Love the patterns I’ve made so far.

  25. What a fabulous clean space!! And the fabric on the shelf looks very inspiring!! 🙂 I’d have a hard time cutting on the floor though… my hubby took a table and made it higher for me — best thing ever! 🙂
