Where I Sew – Melody Miller
Melody Miller has been designing the Ruby Star fabric lines for Kokka since 2010, with her sixth collection, Ruby Star Polka Dot, arriving in stores this summer. Her book Ruby Star Wrapping is a complete guide to creative, resourceful, and reusable gift packaging.
Melody lives in Atlanta, in picturesque and historic Grant Park with her husband and two children. She and her husband both work from their home, so they have to be very creative about their use of space. Melody’s sewing space is tucked into her dining room. She loves vintage design, flea markets, her converse sneaks and margaritas. Most times, in moderation.

How smart to have a sofa in a sewing space, is there another room full of fabric?

What a lovely space. I wouldn’t be brave enough or neat enough to have my sewing area in my dining room.

Her sewing space is lovely, just like her designs. I use my dining room as my sewing space.

Love the orange and turquoise! And the fact this space is so tidy…but what I really want to know is where to find that fantastic plastic/orange upholstered chair! Wonderfully creative space.

Very inviting. I also really like the dress form.

So beautifully coordinated! I use my dining room for sewing, too – but I don’t leave anything out. It’s a bummer to schlep everything out and put it all away…sigh.
But back to Melody and her genius…fab!

Love the colors in this room.

It’s impressive that so much creativity is “tucked in her dining room.” I imagined Melody Miller having some large studio, and this somehow seems more fitting.

What a quirky space! For some reason I always figured people who designed fabric somehow had plenty of room. I feel guilty I’m about to move into a new place where I don’t have to make my sewing space part of a multi purpose room.

That sofa!! Love it. How nice it must be to have her sewing machine sit where she can see out the window and take advantage of natural light.
