Handmade Hostess by Kelly Lee-Creel and Rebecca Soder – Book Review + Giveaway
Handmade Hostess: 12 Imaginative Party Ideas for Unforgettable Entertaining is a fun new book by Kelly Lee-Creel and Rebecca Soder. Kelly blogs her creative work at Ever Kelly and released Storybook Lane, her first collection for Andover Fabrics, last year. What’s so cool about this book is that Kelly and Rebecca are sisters. The party scenes portrayed in the book have a genuine, heartfelt spirit to them that radiates the joy of entertaining for family and friends.
The book is organized by theme including Christmas Wonderland, Mad Scientist Party, Bridal Shower, Halloween Bash and 8 more that build on holidays, family related events and creative birthday party ideas. Each party theme is presented with craft and sewing projects (36 in total) and a dessert (12 total).
The sewing and craft projects vary in complexity from simple and clever to hand sewn decorations that can be used year after year. The book includes tools for planning the party with a checklist and comprehensive schedule. My favorite section was How to Avoid Being a Stressed-Out Hostess! It includes a good reminder that not everything has to be handmade. Kelly and Rebecca’s hostess philosophy of make something special in order to make someone feel special is evident in every page.
The desserts look delicious. Simple recipes executed beautifully with an extra special finish or presentation idea.
Handmade Hostess will get your party planning juices going. It’s an inspiring book with lots of practical and accessible projects, recipes and entertaining ideas.
Stash Books is giving away one copy of the book. Leave a comment sharing a favorite party related craft/sewn decoration or food you’ve made. I’ll draw a winner on Thursday. Happy Entertaining!
